Ilex verticillata | 1-year seedlings, 6–16"
Winterberry is a native shrub commonly used in wildlife habitat plantings, riparian buffers, and wetland restoration projects. Growing up to 10 feet tall, it is well adapted to moist and swampy soils where many other shrubs struggle to thrive. The bright red berries persist well into winter on female plants, providing an important late-season food source for birds and adding seasonal interest to conservation plantings.
